The Challenge

In rural India, limited access to vocational education restricts economic opportunities for women. Traditional societal roles and the absence of skill development resources confine them to low-income, unskilled labor, impeding their financial independence and personal development.

The Solution

The Desai Foundation’s Sewing Skill Training program is a strategic initiative designed to address this challenge. It offers comprehensive training in sewing and tailoring, equipping women with marketable skills that open doors to income generation and economic self-reliance. The curriculum encompasses a range of techniques from basic sewing to advanced tailoring, along with essential entrepreneurship skills, enabling participants to either start their own sewing ventures or secure skilled employment in the textile industry.

The Lasting Impact

This program is a catalyst for economic empowerment and social change. It not only enhances the livelihoods of individual women but also contributes to the broader economic development of their communities. By fostering skills and entrepreneurship, the program helps break the cycle of poverty and promotes gender equality in the workforce.

    MEET BIHAR

Bihar Goyal, a 30-year-old from Lonsara Khurd village in Madhya Pradesh, is supporting his family through daily-wage farm labor. The Desai Foundation’s help desk camp in his village provided valuable assistance: PAN cards, Ayushman cards, and e-Shramik cards.

Bihar registered for a labor card, but an accident with a tractor left him with a severe leg injury. His labor card provided instant relief of Rs. 2 Lakhs and enrollment in the Economic Benefit Scheme, offering Rs. 1,000 per month. He’s grateful for the Desai Foundation’s Heroes for Humanity program, benefiting from the housing scheme associated with the labor card. Bihar is thankful for the Desai Foundation’s unwavering support.
