The Challenge
With an increase in sedentary lifestyles, and consumption of cheap processed foods, diabetes rates in rural India are rapidly on the rise. 70% of all undiagnosed cases of diabetes in India are found in rural areas, where lack of diagnostic tools, awareness, and specialists impedes treatment and worsens health of communities.
The Solution
The Desai Foundation’s Diabetes Awareness & Screening Program brings accurate and reliable blood sugar diagnostic testing to rural areas. We partner with specialists, doctors, hospitals, and medical experts to conduct testing, and provide referrals on a case by case basis. Furthermore, our team conducts educational awareness sessions on how to combat and/or prevent diabetes via proper nutrition and exercise.
The Lasting Impact
By building community awareness about diabetes and its impact, and bringing accurate diagnostic testing to rural communities, we are not only actively addressing the staggering rate of undiagnosed diabetes cases in rural India, but also empowering communities to make informed decisions about their health, switch to nutritious diets and an active lifestyle, and lead more positive, dignified, and healthier lives.
